So me and a couple of buddies are about to work on a slenderman movie.
We have a lot of good ideas, anyone interested in helping out?

Opinions, yeah, not so much fuck is given, I just want some more ideas of scenes from you guys. The good ones may get put in.
Thanks.

Holding a door shut and tendrils/tentacles coming through the keyhole and the cracks. A window become completely blacked out from being covered by the tentacles. A room with a ton of monitors playing scenes from various Slenderman series. The Operator symbol constantly referenced in background and scenery elements like a subliminal message.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)17:29 No.6162239

Alright, I was thinking at first maybe it would be a first person kind of thing, but seeing all of the stuff on youtube and my friend talking to me, I think I may just make it like a LEGIT horror movie to scare people shitless.
And sounds pretty good. I want to make it unique among the other movies.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)17:33 No.6162281

Subtlety is the most terrifying aspect of horror. Keep that in mind and you're golden.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)17:38 No.6162321

Yep,
the way I think, is people are afraid of what they don't know about.
People are induced fear by lack of knowing and simply fear itself.
I would give out all of my thought up plans, but I want to keep it kind of secret for now.
It's going to be a full-length movie, so yeah.

>> Choppedham !hamOR0rhaM 11/08/10(Mon)17:45 No.6162377

I once had a dream that the world was infected with slenderman-like beings, except that they were called 'butlers'. The butlers were rushing into our neighborhood, trying to break into our house.

I wonder if that could serve as an idea..?

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)17:47 No.6162398

Nah, mass hysteria kind of ruins the whole creepy effect.
Short glimpses and stuff are more opt to scare people.

Yea it should be isolated incidents. Start with a series of unrelated events which freaks out one particular character who constantly warns the protagonist and such, but I reckon a twist must be present. Maybe that the protagonist promised all his freinds to the Slendy if he would be left alone? I mean that would be AMSOME! Comon like a hero who acts all freaked and shit, but sells his own freinds for his safety...slendy must be that terryfying and also hidden in the shadows...

Ah.. I see. The idea that the slenderman could be anywhere, or 'all-knowing', should be put in the character's heads. However, they do know that the slenderman has some weaknesses, right?

Maybe the reason why he abducts children has something to do with his history. You should go deeper into the plot and try to figure out his role too.

Focus on children. Give it a nursery rhyme/brother's grim kinda feel to it.

Like, originally he was said to only steal kids and stuff. Work with that, but don't get too cliche about it. You can go overboard with the whole innocent kids/horror contrast in a movie, to the point where people are sick of it. (i.e. Alma from F.E.A.R. and Alessa from Silent Hill)

Also make sure the acting isn't utter shit.

Haha, you guys don't have to worry about us making some shitty kind of thing like those idiot 12 year olds on youtube. Here are some qualities that can assure we won't bullshit this.
1. We are imaginative
2. Us being /x/ people, we KNOW fear.
3. I know my way around a persons sanity and fear
4. We are all pretty good with audio and video editing.

Don't worry about it.
Anticipation and nail-biters are always pretty good, but I want something that will keep people on the edge of their feet, ready to make a brake for the door.

Perfect. In way of that, make the oldest being near 14 or 15, youngest 10. They shouldn't be obnoxious, victim fodder characters either. Make each one of them interesting. They don't all have to be likeable, but make them so that you actually care about what happens to them, whether it's good or bad.

I suggest using like, two brothers and a couple friends. Maybe make them twins, or at least pretty close age wise so there's no annoying little brother/older brother rivalry thing that shows up a lot in shitty movies.

Don't make Slenderman into something with a backstory or whose motives you can understand. He should be unpredictable and inexplicable, like a force of nature. Get a good soundtrack. This is really important. Some nice subtle music can do more towards setting the tone than any visual cues ever could. Again, don't feel like you need to explain who he is or why this is happening. The fact that he's a creepy guy is more than enough to get people going.
Have some sequences shot in the daytime, if your effects can stand up to it. There's something about seeing a monster appear during the "safe" time that is really horrifying.

>> whatatroy !!jtTqSsN+V0O 11/08/10(Mon)19:04 No.6163133

Well, a few words of advice:

1) Make it in a world where EverymanHYBRID, Marble Hornets, Tribe Twelve etc doesn't exist. You'll end up having your characters rely too heavily on them if you do, even if you don't realize it.

2) Have some scenes where Slender Man actually physically attacks somebody. Sure, in MH Alex had some blood on him and in everymanHYBRID Evan got his shit fucked up a a little, but I'm talking organs everywhere and people impaled on trees.

3) No Operator symbols. Seriously, that shit was from MH and now it's been seriously overdone.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)19:09 No.6163183

Slendy should absolutely not be "captured" or "defeated" in the end, that just destroys the fear.
Make the characters draw sketches of him but show the real thing as little as possible.
Nursery rhymes and musicboxes (dunno the correct term, those creepy ass boxes which play simple melodies).

And we need someone going insane because he's seeing Slendy, but in the end he won't get taken.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)19:11 No.6163201

Yeah, I kinda figured.
I want there to be somewhat of a history, like knowledge the character can look into. But it won't have to much. Just some findings.

And I guess what I CAN give you is the "After movie text" So you can see what direction I am going.

"After a couple of weeks, the police were asked to investigate a missing family, when they checked the house they found a camera with footage of some weird activity, along with blood stained floors all over the house. The bodies of the mother and the baby were not found, but the 16 year old son was found lying in the kitchen with no organs. The cause of the death and disappearances were never found."

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)19:13 No.6163225

I would NEVER make it so that slendy was captured, that defeats the purpose of a horror movie.
I think slendy should be shown in moderation to induce more fear on the characters, leaving the audience more thrilled.

OP here.
I go to put some ramen in the microwave, the camera is at a sideview, also showing the window in my kitchen.
So I open the microwave and put in ramen, I close it and begin to cook, and as I shut it, you see slenderman in the window, but I don't notice it.

Good?

No, no, no.

What you should do is simply have a scene where some characters are talking in their house at night. They can be discussing anything, it doesn't matter. And then as they talk, there's a window in the background. Have Slenderman peek in through the window and have him remain there for a good minute or two, but never have the camera focus directly on him and don't have the characters notice he's there at all. Then just have him leave unnoticed. Think of that one scene from the Strangers where the burlap sack guy walks into the background and stays there for a whole minute before disappearing, but a little less noticeable.

Good, but in my opinion you're gonna have to have more scare tactics then him just subtly showing up in reflections.
As much as we all hate them, you're gonna have to have some pop up moments to scare a certain audience, as well as mindfuck scares for another audience.
Also, the pop ups shouldn't be predictable like in most movies, where they have music getting louder and louder so you kind of expect it. Make it sudden, so it scares the shit out of people not predicting it.

OOOOOH I GOT IT!

One of the characters turns on their backporch light at night and when they turn it on Slenderman is RIGHT FUCKING THERE! Have them scream and then abruptly cut the scene off.

I do like this idea, The Strangers is one of the movies that has scared me to pieces. If you need any movies for inspiration, that's one of the movies you should watch.

YES!
Just remember, make it as little predictable as you can, no music, no anything that can imply that something's about to show up. THAT would be awesome.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)20:19 No.6163931

YES!
This is the opposite of slendy
While this is slowly pulling together
He is slowly pulling things apart.

>Smile

And good idea.

Any ideas on how I could make slenderman exist in the movie.
Like, not sure if there could be a good actor due to his physical structure.

How would I make a good slenderman being effect in the movie?

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)20:26 No.6163998

Those were good people!
Any more?

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)20:29 No.6164024

There is always animation, but I don't see how you could get it done well with a low-budget.

I'm also not entirely sure on how you would put in an animated character into a video.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)20:31 No.6164049

Good news, thanks OP!

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)20:32 No.6164058

For Slenderman, I think maybe you should try to find a tall, slim figured actor and then maybe get a decent suit and something for the face since you're on a low budget. Not really sure how that would turn out though.

The pyramid head character in Silent Hill used massive shoes for hif 7'+ frame. Maybe look into stilts/platform shoes?

Tall actor, good suit, put something in shoes to make him a little taller.

You can get rid of the face by putting light, pale cloth over his head and then editing out what's left with simple software editing.

Alternatively, stilts. Expensive to buy, but relatively cheap to make.

Or, you could make a Slendy yourself. Pic related.

Thanks everyone.

The suggestions are still helpful, and remember, they could be in a movie, so keep em' coming!

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)20:42 No.6164185

Just be really careful with how much you show Slenderman, I think you should seriously cut the popup/slendy unnoticed in the background moments to minimum and focus on mindfucking people with the feeling of unseen terror. That way you don't need to worry about the actor so much either, since he will only be showing in crucial moments.

And I support the slithering through keyhole and around the door idea.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)20:45 No.6164242

I know I know.
The mind is an easy thing to manipulate.
But I want it to mindfuck and scare the hell out of people.
The audience knowing something that the character doesn't gives themself a certain fear, knowing that behind their back, the same thing could be watching them.

Mindfucking is good, and I plan on doing it. But I also want to legitimately scare people.

HERE ARE 3 TRAILERS ME AND MY BROTHER HAVE COME UP WITH WHICH WE THOUGHT WOULD BE FUCKING AWESOME FOR A SLENDER MAN MOVIE:

1. A small girl is playing in a sandbox but suddenly shit gets foggy. The camera pans around her as she looks up to see a vague shadow of a very tall man in the fog. She then, without saying a word, gets up and walks into it. As she disappears into the mist, the camera cuts out.

2. A guy is in a shitty apartment scrawling on a desk. The light above him begins to frantically flicker and on one of the flickers a tall shadow is seen cast across the wall behind him before the light finally blows.

3. A kid is seen in his room, at his computer, chatting on an instant messenger. You see him just finishing up what is obviously a Slender Man story saying "And they say that the bodies were split open, and some of them were never found at all..." and then whoever he's chatting with responds with "Dude, don't talk about that kind of stuff" and the kid replies saying "Why? It's bullshit anyways lol" and in the reflection of the computer screen you can see Slender Man's head peek in through the slightly opened door behind the kid.

Opinions?

I like that, it gives slenderman a sense of basassery xD

Okay, ideas. You should have a scene in a character's house. They have a dog and it's looking (poking its head) out a window with curtains and barking at something off screen. The character is like "(dog's name here) what are you barking at?" then they go to check it out and just see a tall, slender shadow seemingly stare at them, wanting something

That's all i got so far.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)21:10 No.6164599

That seems a bit too open.
I think it would be more ominous if nothing was there.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)21:12 No.6164616

OP's gonna need more than just Slenderman sighting scenes, actually he probably just needs about 2 or 3 sighting scenes at the most before the sightings become obvious and not scary anymore.

I'm trying to think of some scenes that would make the movie flow nicely, but right now I have nothing.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)21:15 No.6164660

Yes.
Right now I want to focus on the story rather than particularly scary scenes.

>> CanadianDork !!HH5G/2hCQ+G 11/08/10(Mon)21:18 No.6164716

good luck op. Would it be like a doc or fiction?

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)21:34 No.6164909

Basically, the main character begins to see and experience weird things. So he begins doing research and trying to found out what is going on. The more he researches, the more he mentally breaks down, realizing that slenderman could very well be stalking him.
He tries to document some of the weird things he is finding and some of the stuff that is happening.
So it's a battle of self struggle and fear.

But, I also want to put in some stuff involving police investigation and missing people.

Yeah Op. just one question.. isn't slenderman terrorizing other people too? like children, such as this poster said >>6162488

maybe they could all form a team, somehow. but that's just your vision OP.

>> Anonymous 11/08/10(Mon)21:55 No.6165163

And yes, I meant to put that in there.
In fact, I am already making a poster letting them know that some children will need to be acting.

This is being filmed in my hometown.
It's good because it's a wooded area. It's not in the city, more or less out in the sticks.
